Albert N. Pettengill No. 3 Upright Nickel Silver Fly Reel New York Circa-1887

$575.00

Albert N. Pettengill No. 3 Upright Fly Reel Circa-1887. Albert N. Pettengill (1837-1903) from Ilion, NY applied for a patent on August 3rd, 1885, and was granted patent #361,890 on April 26th, 1887 for his "improvements in Reels for Fishing Rods. Pettengill reels were fitted with a constant click that functions perfectly, a small cylinder shaped wooden grasp, and are nearly always nickel plated brass. No attempt was made to clean this rare reel. This model is considered the checkerboard model with the distinct pattern on the reel face. This Rare never seen reel spins great and is smooth. The reels foot is in great shape and not over manicured as the few others I have seen. Great example of fly fishing History.
